Food for the Spirit

The soul cannot thrive in the absence of art ~ Henry Moore
Atlas

Since ancient times art has been a means to express feeling, complex thoughts, and spiritual experience. It is evidence of those things that define us.

A work called Atlas is shown above. In Greek mythology Atlas held up the celestial sphere. We may not believe in the gods of Greece, but the power of an image called Atlas continues to resonate with the human spirit.

"Art is meant to disturb, science reassures." ~ Georges Braque

Consider looking at your favorite building. If you visit that place there is likely no charge to gaze upon it. You take photos of its exterior. Perhaps you compose a poem. The people, landscape and architecture of the moment wash with your experiences of the place and something new is born.

"Creativity belongs to the artist in each of us. To create means to relate. The root meaning of the word art is “to fit together” and we all do this every day. Not all of us are painters but we are all artists. Each time we fit things together we are creating – whether it is to make a loaf of bread, a child, a day. ~ Corita Kent
